Crouch & Fitzgerald has long been recognized as one of the finest American made trunks. Because of this, these trunks do not go up for sale that often. This trunk is an excellent example of an original condition, 1880s C&F. The trunk is solid and in perfect working order. Included are, 1/2 thick, Oak hardwood slats, not one, but 2 lid stays, beautiful Basswood box, and a sturdy, solid Brass C&F lock with key. The original, heavy gauge, canvas covering is also in great condition. All of this is held together with over 1000, hand pounded, nails. The worn handles have been replaced with 3 layer, stitched leather replacements, and held on with the original cast iron, handle clamps that proudly display the "C&F NY" casting on them. I made, and replaced, the leather lid lifter that exactly matches the worn out original. The interior, and Oak slats, have been sanded smooth, and coated with no less than 5 coats of low sheen, Tung oil. The original makers label was carefully removed before refinishing, then reinstalled on the completed interior. The exterior has been detailed, and coated with a layer of hand rubbed, Tung oil for protection. A Painted steel base, and 4 heavy duty cast iron casters finish off this gem. The Trunk measures 38" long, 22" wide, and 25" high. The top has a slight arch, but is still able to accept a sheet of glass if you wish to use a a coffee table.
Thank you,
Jim
